Inner Mongolia Teachers strike against calling for higher wages

Teachers in Donghe district, Baotou, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are striking against calling higher wages as equal as public servant.

The news search results by baidu and Google had already shut down, fewer post from Baidu Tieba that pointed out the reason teachers strike from December 11 to December 12, 2008, as a result of salary arrears of teachers, non-implementation of the national wage system for teachers, as well as mandatory contributions and other issues. But the problem has not been resolved effectively, teachers stroke continues to the community.

Meanwhile, in another districts under Baotou city, the teachers salaries raised, but only in Donghe district not to give teachers a pay raise. And monthly wages are not paid on time. The teachers were demanding the payment of some months’ wage arrears and the recent cancellation of per month wage increase that the teachers has not been received.

Their demands included the payment of several months of missing wages from October to January this year, totally 16,000 yuan, which other districts had already received the salary.

Even more interesting is that although Donghe district teachers’ salaries do not rise, this month's wages deducted the rose after the personal income tax.

Since December 11, 2008 until early this morning I've been following this incident and fewer websites had reports of this incident, but were quickly shut down by admin. Not a single reporter or photographer was allowed to report the strike. Most of the articles and pictures on the incident have been deleted by government censors.

The only post from sina.com by a teacher from Donghe district which thread had been shut down. In that thread she described although those teachers have many things to say to public, there are moments when they feel that speech amounts to nothing at all.

Teachers are also worried that the corruption will affect their salaries, contracts and conditions of service. Parents are concerned that the final examination will coming soon, teachers strike against calling for higher wages will effect their children study.

Facing government authority, nobody dares represent the teachers in going to negotiate with government leaders, for fear of retaliation.
